SPECIAL ELECTION

Last year two City Councilmembers - Joseph Addabbo who represented the 32nd Council District, and Hiram Monserrate, who represented the 21st Council District - both won their races for seats in the State Senate, creating the need for Special Elections to fill the vacant City Council seats.
On Tuesday, February 24, we urge all registered voters in each district to go to the polls and vote for your choice from the field of candidates who are running. Do not stay home - get out and vote - and bring all of your family and friends.
In City Council District 21, which includes the communities of Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, East Elmhurst and Corona, four candidates - George Dixon, Julissa Ferreras, Eduardo Giraldo and Francisco Moya - are running for State Senator Hiram Monserrate’s seat.
The Queens Courier recently sponsored a “Candidate Debate Night” that was taped by Queens Public Television (QPTV). QPTV will air “Meet the Candidates 2009 District 21” on Saturday, February 21 from 5 to 6 p.m. on channel 35; and on Monday, February 23 from 10 to 11 p.m., also on channel 35.
In City Council District 32, which includes the communities of Broad Channel, Rockaway, Howard Beach, Breezy Point and parts of Ozone and South Ozone Park, five candidates - Geraldine Chapey, Glenn DiResto, Michael Ricatto, Lew Simon and Eric Ulrich - are running for State Senator Joseph Addabbo’s seat.
The Queens Courier also sponsored a “Candidate Debate Night” that was taped by QPTV too. QPTV will air “Meet the Candidates 2009 District 32” on Friday, February 20 from 4 to 5 p.m. on channel 56; and on Sunday, February 22 from 9 to 10 p.m., also on channel 56.
Watch the debates and use them as an aid to select the candidate to represent you and your family, your business, your neighborhood and your future.
Choose wisely, as the winners will be your voice on the powerful City Council through this November’s elections.
