Senator Joseph Addabbo rushed back from Albany just in time for Community Board (CB)?10’s monthly meeting on Thursday, March 5.
According to Addabbo, Albany is just scratching the surface on a very tough budget.
“We have to be mindful and careful to balance the budget on both the city and the state level,” Addabbo said.
Addabbo was also on hand to discuss the rumors about the Aqueduct Race Track’s land and whether the project will move forward in such hard times.
“We need to go forward with this, we need jobs,” he said.
City Councilmember Eric Ulrich then spoke a few quick words about the importance of Community Boards.
Ulrich said that he served on Community Board 9 in previous years before his bid for City Council.
“Community Boards deserve to be commended for what they do,” Ulrich said. “And they don’t get paid.”
Community Board member Frank Dardani spoke of a spike in burglaries in the 106th Precinct’s district.
“We need to keep an eye out on the back of our houses,” Dardani said.
Dardani explained that most entries are made through unprotected windows or doors that are located at the rear of houses.
“We need to re-evaluate our homes,” Dardani said.
The 106th Precinct is available to anyone who wants a crime prevention survey done of their house, according to Dardani, who is also President of the 106th Precinct Community Council.
“Just give them a call,” Dardani said.
According to another board member, home invasion seems to be a problem in Community Board 10’s area as well.
“Never open the door,” Dardani said. “We need to be careful, these are tough times.”
