Holistic Moms Network debuts in Astoria

If you are an Astoria mother interested in holistic health and green living, there’s a new place perfect for you – the Holistic Moms Network (HMN).

The recently formed Astoria group hosted their first meeting on March 10, and it is only the latest addition to Holistic Moms Network, which began in 2003 and now has 120 chapters around the U.S. and Canada.

“We got together and figured that it would be interesting to embark on a new chapter here in Queens,” said Maria Delgado, a lifetime Astoria resident and mother of a 20-month-old boy, who is one of the five co-leaders of the Astoria group.

Although the organization is based in Astoria, it is open to all parents and families in Queens looking for a place to learn more about the holistic lifestyle and about bringing up the children in that environment as well.

Delgado said that the organization plans to host monthly meetings at the Astoria Residents Reclaiming Our World (ARROW) community center on 35th Street that feature guest speakers who specialized in holistic life methods as well as a monthly playgroup for children on a different day.

During the organization’s first meeting, which attracted almost 100 families and children, there was also a special guest to welcome the group to the community – City Councilmember Peter Vallone.

“I’m thrilled to see HMN in Astoria,” Vallone said. “This group sets a great example for our community.”
