The Jamaica High School Varsity and Junior Varsity Football Awards Banquet was held at Thomasina’s on Saturday, March 7.
Head Coach Calvin Whitfield said the Jamaica H.S football team was re-established 6 years ago and the team did very well this year. They had a 500 season and made the playoffs.
Grades and education are emphasized, noted Whitfield. If players aren’t passing their classes, they can’t play football.
Assemblymember William Scarborough congratulated the football players for their commitment. They practice four times a week during season, and build their strength during off season by lifting weights and running. Scarborough told the players they weren’t just learning about football, they were learning about life.
