In an effort to educate more North Shore Towers residents about their on-site fitness options, the gym and aerobics staff at the Country Club held an open house on Saturday, March 21, complete with class demonstrations and a tour of the facility.
“We’re here to explain to you what your options are as a member in the fitness and wellness area,” Gym Director Steve Avellino said. “We’re trying to bring out the best in you.”
Avellino explained that there are three ways a person can walk into the gym. The first is with whatever experience they already have. He noted that while using the equipment there is always a staff member on duty who can assist in explaining or adjusting the machines or helping to understand the facilities.
The second way is to come in with a personal trainer, which are available for hire at the Towers. Avellino said that the personal trainers design a program specifically for the person based on their medical history, physical condition and goals.
Aerobic Director Lori Scolaro explained the final way, which is through group fitness classes that are included in the Country Club membership fee.
“The group fitness is offered to you at no additional fee,” she said. “We have a wide range of classes, anywhere from kickboxing to weight training classes.”
Scolaro said that there are many different classes and that there is something to fit everyone’s needs.
“There’s a wonderful amount of classes here and it’s all at your fingertips,” Scolaro said. “This is your playground – use it.”
The open house included demonstrations of Yoga, spinning classes, and a half and half class. Trainers and instructors also took residents on a tour to see the pools and gym, where they explained some of the equipment and how to use it.
At the conclusion of the event, six raffle winners were selected. Each won a free half-hour session with a member of the gym or aerobics staff.
