A house at 80-46 260th Street in Floral Park was decimated after an explosion and fire that killed wife and mother Ghanwatti Boodram.
Con Edison confirmed to The Courier that a crew arrived on the scene at 4:05 p.m. Friday, April 24 and was checking for an odor of gas.
The explosion happened at approximately 5 p.m. The houses on either side also caught fire, according to reports.
138 firefighters were on the scene of the 3-alarm blaze, which was still not under control at 6:45 p.m., according to FDNY press. Two people were reported injured, including one Con Ed worker.
Con Ed says it is working with FDNY to determine the cause of the explosion.
But in light of the tragedy, City Councilmember Eric Gioia is calling for action from the utility giant.
