Maltese honored for commitment to community, Academy

The Salvatore LaRussa Dance Theatre (SLDT) – The Academy hosted its first Annual Gala at Russo’s on the Bay honoring former Senator Serphin Maltese for his 20 plus years of service to Queens and for giving a grant to start SLDT, which will be opening in fall 2009 at 66-85 73rd Place, Middle Village. The Academy’s mission is to offer professional dance instruction and arts education to a diverse income area. Salvatore LaRussa Dance Theatre is a performing modern dance company promoting greater awareness and appreciation for dance. As an extension of the company, SLDT – The Academy will serve as its permanent home, allowing the company to invest in the artistic, creative and educational needs of the Queens community. The Academy will teach the art of ballet and modern dance. In addition, it will foster opportunities for active and healthier lifestyles by engaging the community with alternative recreational activities.
