It is with great sadness that I read about the gas explosion in Floral Park, which resulted in the fire that took the life of a mother of three, Ghanwattie Boodram.
I live in Glen Oaks Village and was about eight blocks away from this disaster on 260th Street and two blocks away from Our Lady of the Snows Parish. My wife, Eva, and I were coming home from work at the time and heard many fire engines and helicopters near our apartment. We turned on the TV and heard what had happened and that the explosion resulted in fires that traveled to other homes on the block.
A co−worker of mine called me and asked if my wife and I were all right because he heard the explosion was in Glen Oaks Village. He told us he felt his house shake because he lived in Floral Park.
At this time, our heartfelt prayers go out to Dindial Boodram and his three sons — Kevin, Ryan and Chris — and all the other families affected by this disaster.
The communities of Glen Oaks Village and Floral Park should set up a fund to help these families. I know I would contribute and I believe many in the community would do as well, for this could have happened to any of us.
Let’s be good neighbors and give a helping hand.
