Grace got a new shade of red, Rosa relaxed, and Despina loved her color.
All three women were treated to an “ultimate makeover” from Christie & Co. Salon • Spa in The Bay Terrace after their loved ones wrote in to The Queens Courier, explaining why each mom was special, and why she deserved the ultimate gift of beauty.
When Grace D’Agostino of Ozone Park first entered the salon on Wednesday, May 13, she said she felt like she was in Hollywood.
“It’s like the royal treatment,” she said excitedly.
The friendly staff at Christie’s congratulated each winner and took the time to get to know them, making each feel at home.
“The place is magnificent, and the service is incomparable,” said Rosa Balbo of Bayside.
Each received a 10-Step Four-Layer Facial with deep pore cleansing, which neither had had before.
“The spa is something every woman should experience, at least once in her life,” said Balbo.
Lois Christie, CEO and hair color director, who is also President of Intercoiffure America/Canada, then consulted with each, learning about the women’s hair texture, color and styling habits.
She even showed them photos of different styles and gave tips and advice to each mom before explaining how she was going to transform them.
“Many women are the last ones to take care of themselves,” said Christie, who said that she is on a personal mission to help boost women’s self-esteem. “Everyone works hard, and everyone is entitled to some form of pampering. It’s about your health. There’s nothing better than looking good to make you feel good.”
On D’Agostino’s hair, Christie used a new process – shine line.
“We paint in the shine, literally,” said Christie. “It gives the woman brightness around her face without highlights. It’s low maintenance, high fashion.”
The women then received an anti-aging manicure and salt scrub pedicure before heading over to the make-up chair.
Lisa Pietrocola, one of the make-up artists, explained it best: “We’ll make you look like you – enhanced.”
As each of the moms was made-up, they also received a lesson about how best to apply makeup, which products are best for them, and more.
A client in the salon, who herself had received a gift certificate from her children for Mother’s Day, commented to the staff, “You transformed them.”
On Sunday, May 17, Despina Flourentzou received her “ultimate makeover.”
She had her hair done, manicure and pedicure, and, in lieu of a facial, eyebrow waxing and make-up.
The mom of three from Bayside was “very excited, very happy and very proud to be in Christie’s Salon.”
Her favorite part, she said, was her new hair color, a rich shade of brown.
“I wish I could come every week,” she said. “They treat you very nice, they are very sweet.”
She joked with The Queens Courier that her brother, in town from Texas for a baby shower and christening that weekend, would not recognize her.
