As an Astoria resident, it is time for New York state to join the 21st century and pass legislation granting equal marriage rights to all New Yorkers, no matter what their sexual orientation is.
Marriage equality is the major civil rights issue of our time. I am disappointed my state senator, George Onorato (D−Astoria), refuses to vote to give same−sex couples the equal treatment and rights they deserve. This issue has nothing to do with religion. It is about giving same−sex couples the same legal contract heterosexual couples get.
I hope Onorato joins with the rest of Astoria in supporting marriage equality.
