Southeast Queens leaders endorse Bloomberg

Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently received two endorsements from key members of the southeast Queens community in his bid for reelection for Mayor of the city of New York.
Reverend Dr. Floyd H. Flake, who is the senior pastor of the more than 20,000 member Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral in Jamaica and a former Congressmember joined current Democratic Assemblymember Barbara Clark to endorse Bloomberg on Sunday, May 10, saying they believed he was the right person to lead the city during these difficult economic times.
“Mike is someone who acts independently and governs in a non-partisan manner,” said Reverend Flake. “He understands that by creating jobs and cutting red tape for small business we will grow our economy and strengthen our communities. He also recognizes that education is the key to opportunity, and he has been strong ally in our efforts at reform.”
Clark, who has served as a Democratic member of the State Assembly since 1986, decided to buck her own political party’s likely nominee – City Comptroller Bill Thompson – and throw her support behind Bloomberg.
“The thrust of my political life has been about ensuring that children receive the educational footing they need to succeed in this state and this country,” said Clark, who represents areas in Bellerose, Cambria Heights, Hollis, Queens Village and St. Albans. “His commitment to this city is genuine, because he has and continues to do what’s best for all New Yorkers, independent of the partisan politics that frustrate many elected officials.”
In turn, Bloomberg said he was happy to have the support of the two influential leaders, and he hopes to continue working with them during the next four years.
“I am grateful to have their support and I look forward to continuing to work with them to improve education, reduce crime, create jobs and keep more New Yorkers in their homes,” Bloomberg said.
