As a teacher in the city Department of Education, I think the school system should be shut down for a few days and disinfected. What is the matter with city Schools Chancellor Joel Klein and Mayor Michael Bloomberg?
We have already lost one educator: Assistant Principal Mitchell Wiener. What happens if other educators contract this illness? The calls to close the schools are mounting each day. I say that for the health and well−being of all who teach, work and come to learn in our schools.
It is not the responsibility of schools to be taking care of sick children. Parents need to stop expecting this will continue. We all have to go to work. It is your responsibility to have alternate plans for your children if they are sick. Keep them home and out of school until they are better.
I am fed up with hearing that parents have no place to leave their children if they are ill. Take responsibility for your children’s care.
