Area residents were outraged when they saw that vandals had allegedly burned several patches of the football turf and a portion of the track surface at Detective Keith Williams Park (also known as Liberty Park).
On Saturday, July 25, Councilmember Leroy Comrie visited the park at the behest of the community.
“I am outraged that someone would show such disrespect to this community and would be selfish as to attempt to deprive our children of a place to play,”?said Comrie. “I intend to speak with local law enforcement representatives to ask for increased patrols during night hours and it is my hope that the individual or individuals responsible for this crime will be caught and prosecuted. Additionally, I intend to reach out to the Parks Department immediately to explore options in getting this field repaired.”
Comrie noted that many local organizations, such as the Jamaica Bulldogs program, use the field for athletic and recreational purposes.
