ASTORIA — An allegedly intoxicated 41-year-old Astoria man sped through an Astoria intersection where pedestrians had to run to avoid being hit a little before 1 a.m. June 24, the Queens District Attorney’s office said.
Panagiotis Hatzitheodorou told police the pedestrians at the northwest intersection of Broadway and 31st Street were moving too slowly and he wanted to scare them, the DA said.
Police noticed a strong odor of alcohol on Hatzitheodorou’s breath, and he was unsteady on his feet when exiting his vehicle, the DA said.
Hatzitheodorou was charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to the DA.
