Johan Santana’s 2009 season is over, and if the Mets season wasn’t over yet, it likely is now.
The team announced on Tuesday afternoon, August 25, that the star pitcher will be out for the remainder of the 2009 season, and he will undergo minor arthroscopic surgery to clean up bone chips in his left elbow.
Santana was examined by Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan on Tuesday.
The Mets statement said they expected him to fully recover and be ready for spring training next years.
