FRESH MEADOWS A 32-year-old Bronx man was arrested after he allegedly attempted to steal hundreds of packs of gum from a Fresh Meadows Rite Aid chain store, the Queens district attorney said.
Waren Lesane of the Bronx pleaded guilty Sept. 7 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Robert Raciti to an attempted petit larceny charge, Queens DA Richard Brown said. The defendant was sentenced to 15 days in jail, he said.
On Sept. 7, the manager of a Fresh Meadows Rite Aid on Union Turnpike saw Lesane remove 142 packs of gum from the stores shelves and put them into two bags, the DA said. Upon being spotted, Lesane attempted to exit the location, Brown said.
The defendant admitted to the stores manager that he was going to try to make a profit off of it, the DA said.
