The Carpio sextuplets spent last Halloween in the neonatal intensive care unit at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan.
This year however, Whitestone residents need to prepare for the arrival of these half dozen cuties – Justin, Joel, Genesis, Daniela, Jaden and Jezreel – at their doorstep. Big brother Jahn Carlos, 9, dressed as Batman will lead the way.
The story of the Carpios’ amazing situation has touched the hearts of people throughout Queens and contributions have begun to trickle in, according to Digna Carpio, 32.
“Through our P.O. Box we’ve gotten baby clothes, pampers, and beautiful winter coats,” she said. “We’ve even gotten lots of small checks with $50 being the highest. A little old woman sent $5, she said even if just to buy them cookies.”
Bayside entrepreneur, Party City owner Lucy Tinari, also jumped at the idea of donating to the Carpios, and because it’s Halloween, she decided to outfit the babies with their first costume.
“I wanted to help these parents, who have had a tremendous economic change in their life, have one less thing to worry about,” said Tinari. “I hope they have a Happy Halloween!”
The Carpios continue to need help. The mom no longer works and is supported with the help of one home health aide and dad Victor works in building maintenance making about $35,000 a year.
If you would like to donate to the Carpios, you can do so by sending a check to The Carpio Family, P.O. Box 570105, Whitestone, NY 11357-0105. Currently, they need long sleeve cotton shirts and bottom, and overall baby clothes for 18 month olds.
