More than 250 borough residents joined numerous Queens elected officials last weekend to speak out against hate crimes in the wake of the brutal beating of an openly gay College Point man in early October.
The marchers walked down College Point Boulevard to rally in support of Jack Price, a 49-year-old gay College Point man who was kicked and punched repeatedly in the middle of the street after leaving a 24-hour deli Oct. 13. Price suffered from damaged lungs, a lacerated spleen and a fractured jaw and ribs, but is recovering at New York Hospital Queens.
“We are here today to say enough is enough,” Queens Democratic District Leader Danny Dromm said. “Anytime anyone does this to a member of our community, we will fight back.”
Two College Point men — Danny Rodriguez, 21, and Daniel Aleman, 26 — have been arrested and charged with assault and robbery as a hate crime in the incident, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
