As the cold winter months approach, a getaway to a sunny beach sounds like a great idea.
Since American Airlines knows why you fly, they have been gracious enough to donate two domestic/Caribbean roundtrip tickets that can be coupled with a long getaway weekend – four days, three nights’ stay – at Coco Resorts in St. Lucia. Both the trip and accommodations will be raffled to raise money for the Fund for Public Schools at the Kings of Queens Champions Breakfast and Networking Event.
The Coco Resorts is a very hip boutique hotel located right in the heart of Rodney Bay, the entertainment capital of St. Lucia. Offering five-star services at three-star prices, Coco Resorts caters to the savvy traveler looking for a hip hotel with a whole lot of vibe. They offer snorkeling, scuba diving or a visit to the rum distillery and a local fish fry. Visit www.coco-resorts.com to learn more about this upscale charming resort.
Already the airline with the most daily flights – 210 – out of the New York area to 63 worldwide destinations, as well as the most flights to the Caribbean of any U.S. airline, American also proudly announces that next spring they will add flights to exotic and eco-friendly San Jose, Costa Rica. Let American Airlines help you get away.
The raffle for the getaway package will help raise funds for the Fund for Public Schools.
The non-profit foundation, created in 2002, provides arts educations, library programs, scholarships, career and technical education for New York City Schools, and supports leadership training for future teachers and principals through the generous gifts of individuals, businesses and foundations.
With over 1.1 million students in 1,600 schools, New York City needs all the funds it can get to provide a quality education to the leaders of tomorrow.
Chaired by the Chancellor of the NYC Department of Education, Joel I. Klein, and with Caroline Kennedy and media-mogul Mortimer Zuckerman on the Board of Directors, The Fund for Public Schools has engaged the help of retail stores around the city – Macy’s, J. Crew, Marc Jacobs and Best Buys among others – to donate proceeds from their sales.
But individuals can also contribute, especially alumni of the NYC Public School System, while allowing donors to earmark contributions to an individual school. Ninety three percent of your donation goes directly to your designated school. Individuals can donate books, computers, and school supplies, among other items.
An important niche in The Fund for Public School’s work is the Chancellor’s Bereavement Fund, initially established in March 1997. This fund helps families, who cannot afford a funeral, with the services for a student who dies unexpectedly. The Bereavement Fund makes grants of up to $5,000 to our neediest families, who face exceptional adversity in meeting their child’s final needs. Typically, the Bereavement Fund approves seven or eight requests each year.
The Queens Courier and Queens Business will turn over 100 percent of the money raised at the networking event to that 501C3 cause.
