Civic leaders speak for themselves

In one of the local Queens newspapers a couple of weeks ago, Marc Haken of Holliswood wrote, “I will vote for David [Weprin] in the special election, and I know that all of those actively involved in civic and community activities will do so, also.”

As leaders of our respective civic associations, we take each election seriously. We look at each candidate’s record and his or her involvement in community issues, attendance at civic meetings and long-term commitment to the elected position being sought.

Only after carefully reviewing all of these factors, among others, and assessing each candidate’s performance will we make our individual choices as to who to support and vote for. As individuals referred to by Haken as “actively involved in civic and community activities,” we would like to set the record straight that Haken does not speak for us.

We will decide for ourselves who we will support and vote for at the appropriate time and will then share that information with your readers and our communities if as individuals we choose to do so.
