Food drive helps soup kitchen

LaGuardia Community College held a successful food drive on the eve of Thanksgiving, which enabled Sister Baldwin of the Godian Fellowship in South Jamaica to open her trailer and serve Thanksgiving dinner to more than 70 homeless people.

During the college’s second annual food drive for Sister Baldwin’s food pantry and soup kitchen, students in the Nursing Club and the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) collected $167 and six bags of non-perishable foods such as rice, pasta, dried beans, cans of soup, tuna, fruits and vegetables.

“Once again, our students are reaching out to this local church during the season of giving,” said Professor Deborah McMillan-Coddington, “and supporting its food pantry and meal program.” – Pete Davis
