School holds toy drive for hospital

Through the “Children Helping Children: Lighting Up Our Community” program, students at P.S. 22, the Thomas Jefferson School in Flushing, have been collecting toys for children at New York Hospital Queens.

The school’s student government, now in its fourth year of existence, has teamed up with the Flushing-based Buddha’s Light International Association/Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple.

“Through school improvement projects and local, national and world-wide projects we teach our students the value of government involvement and volunteerism,” said teacher Rosemary Hamel.

“We have been involved in many activities and we are proud to collaborate once again, with the Buddha’s Light Int’l Association during this holiday season. We truly believe our students are learners today and our future leaders of tomorrow.”
