BAYSIDE — Gilbert Loo, a 49-year-old Asian-American man arrested Jan. 9 after allegedly burglarizing two homes in Bayside earlier that night, is the prime suspect in a string of burglaries committed in northeast Queens since the beginning of December, police said.
Loo, who lives at 50-11 206th St. in Bayside, was charged with burglary, possession of burglar’s tools and criminal possession of stolen property after a resident alerted police that $2,645 in cash was stolen from her dining room table drawer, along with a bottle of dish-washing soap, Ziploc bags and sponges, according to the 111th Precinct. The break-in took place near the intersection of 208th Street and 48th Avenue.
Police did not say how many burglaries they believe Loo may have committed, but Detective Kevin O’Donnell of the 109th Precinct said last week police think six burglaries committed in Whitestone in December and January and a number in the 111th Precinct may have been his handiwork.
“At this time, it’s being investigated that this was the same person who was doing the burglaries in the 109th,” O’Donnell said at the time.
A repeat offender, Loo, who was arrested this time by NYPD Patrol Borough North Queens officers with the assistance of 111th Precinct officers, was charged with grand larceny in 1995 and burglary in 1997 and 1999, according to police.
Beginning in 2003 he served five years in state prison in Nassau County on two second-degree burglary convictions, according to state Department of Correctional Services records.
