CORONA — A Corona livery cab driver faced prison time after twice giving police false information about his identity, the Queens district attorney’s office said.
Silvio Fernandez, 30, was stopped by police from the 115th Precinct Jan. 19 after he rolled past a stop sign, the Queens DA said. He told police his name was Jose, that he had no license and that he was driving his drunken brother home, the DA said. Fernandez was released without being cited, the DA said.
A week later, on Jan. 27, the same officer stopped Fernandez after seeing him illegally solicit fares on the sidewalk, the DA said. When the officer pulled him over, Fernandez presented a fake livery license with the name “Romel Fernandez,” the DA said. A search of his wallet turned up an expired license with Fernandez’s real name, the DA said.
Fernandez was charged with felony possession of a forged instrument. He was arraigned Jan. 27 and held in lieu of $5,000 bail.
