JACK HOGAN

John (Jack) Hogan Jr., the manager of the Quinn-Fogarty Funeral Home in Flushing, passed away on Monday, January 25.
Hogan, who was honored by The Queens Courier last year as a “King of Queens,” attended St. John’s University and McAllister School of Embalming and received his funeral director license in 1963.
He committed himself to the funeral service profession on a state and national level by serving on the Board of Directors for the New York State Funeral Directors Association, holding every chair on the association’s Board of Directors, including the role of president (1998-1999).
In 2006, he was elected President of the National Funeral Directors Association. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Funeral Directors Association; he served as president, vice president, and secretary for the group. Additionally, Hogan was a past president and founding member of the Catholic Cemetery Guild.
Ever civic-minded, Hogan served as president of the Flushing Chamber of Commerce and Business Association for over 30 years; president of the Flushing Lions Club; and was a member of the Community Advisory Board of Flushing Hospital Medical Center and New York Hospital Queens.
“He has always had a reputation in the community as one of the most ethical men,” said Myra Baird Hearce, president of the Flushing Chamber. “He was a very kind, caring individual, very compassionate.”
She said that Hogan was very active in his church, St. Mary’s Nativity.
A father of five – John, Robert, Maryann, James and Daniel – and grandfather of 11, Hearce explained that, for Hogan, “All of his kids were the loves of his life. His wife Mary was the queen in his whole world.”
Calling him the “quintessential family man,” Hearce said that Hogan “had an energy level that just didn’t stop. Everything was to make the world a better place. His mission was to improve the quality of life in our community.”
Son John called him a “man of very deep faith” who “never let anything stop him.”
“He loved to be with people,” he said.
Hogan will be waked at the Quinn-Fogarty Funeral Home, with funeral services at St. Mary’s Nativity Church on Saturday, January 30. Interment will be at Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery.
