A $750,000 personal campaign contribution from Mayor Michael Bloomberg that went through the state Independence Party and wound up in the hands of a firm headed by Queens Republican operative and Forest Hills resident John Haggerty is being investigated by the Manhattan district attorney’s office, the New York Post reported Tuesday.
Erin Duggan, a spokeswoman for Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance Jr., said she cannot confirm or deny an investigation is underway, but anonymous sources told the Post a probe has begun into the contribution.
Haggerty was a volunteer for Bloomberg’s 2009 campaign for mayor and was involved in Special Elections Operations LLC, which ultimately received the $750,000 payment Bloomberg first sent to the state Independence Party’s housekeeping account.
The Post said Haggerty and Independence Party Chairman Frank MacKay are the focus of the probe, which was launched last week, the Post said.
