KEW GARDENS — A Far Rockaway man was sentenced to three years in prison Monday for sexually abusing three boys on a school bus which he worked on as an aide, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Darnell “Michael” Washington, 21, of 636 Beach 22nd St. in Far Rockaway, was on the bus in front of PS 183 sometime between March 2, 2009, and April 27, 2009, when he asked an 8-year-old boy to go to the back of the bus, where he placed his hand inside the boy’s pants and yanked up his underwear, hurting the boy and tearing his underwear, Brown said.
Washington then placed his hands back in the boy’s pants and touched him, the DA said.
When the boy asked Washington to stop, he refused and instead offered the boy money and candy not to tell anyone, Brown said.
A second incident, which occurred during the same time period, Washington admitted to reaching into the pants of a 7-year-old boy and giving the boy a lollypop, Brown said.
Washington also admitted to sexually abusing a 9-year-old boy on the bus, the DA said.
Washington was sentenced Monday to three years in prison by Queens Criminal Court Judge Robert Raciti following an earlier guilty plea to sexual abuse, Brown said.
The sentence is to run concurrent to a three-year sentence imposed by Queens Supreme Court Justice Richard Buchter after Washington pleaded guilty to sexual abuse for one of the other children, the DA said.
He pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child for the third boy and was sentenced Feb. 8, 2010, to time served, which was about 10 months, Brown said.
