100th Precinct
Police responded to a 9-1-1 call of a vehicle accident on the North Channel Bridge on Tuesday, February 23. Upon their arrival, responding officers saw a green Volkswagen, occupied by only the driver, which had struck an electrical pole. EMS also responded to the scene and declared the driver, identified as Jason Webb, 23, of Arverne, dead.
A preliminary investigation determined that the Volkswagen was traveling southbound on the bridge when it struck an electrical pole. There is no criminality suspected at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
