Ridgewood-Glendale-Middle Village-Maspeth Little League:
In a comeback victory, Modica Pitching won its first game of the year, defeating Haller & Haller, 5-4. Both pitchers, Alex LeBeau for Modica Pitching and Jamie Downing for Haller & Haller, threw strong games and struck out a combined 22 batters. Matthew Camus, Ryan Morales, Juan San Pedro and Robert Berrios all contributed to the win, with Berrios striking out the side in the bottom of the sixth.
RGMVM instructional league: The Pirates played the Astros on Wednesday, April 7. Matthew Cipri and Joe Liotta went 3-3 for the Pirates, while Dylan Plisner was 2-3. Outstanding defense was played by Michael Solimando at second base.
The Pirates were at it again versus the Cardinals on Sunday, April 11. Matthew Cipri went 4-4 and was named co-player of the game along with Isabella Giuszak, who went 2-3. Joe Patane and Antonio Mannino also had multiple hits.
Bayside Little League: In a Texas Farm division game, Moller & Moller defeated Vision Protection. Bobby Hanophy and Dominic D’Orta had multiple hits for Vision, while the defense of Aidan Gregory and Nicholas Cogliandro kept the game close, but Moller & Moller ultimately won.
Bonnie Brite Cleaners defeated Grimaldi’s Pizza in their 2010 home opener. Grimaldi’s pitcher Michael Nacinovich kept the bats silent until Bonnie Brite finally broke through late in the game. Steven Shinas provided spectacular defense, along with two hits to ice the win. Jacob Rivera and Justin Friedman also contributed hits for Bonnie Brite in the victory.
Three of Cups defeated Bourbon Street 7-2 on opening day thanks to solid pitching by Nicholas Perez and Christopher Gluck. The team played smart baseball with fielding and base-running fit for the pro league. Catchers Savino Barile and Brian O’Donnell contributed, as did Jake Weingarten, Dylan Rinfret and their newest player, Johnny Kosnar. The bit hit came off the bat of Bobby McDonald, whose two-run double set the tone. William Kinkel, Jeremiah Baez and Michael Hom also contributed to the win.
Fame Diner defeated Little-Neck Douglaston 13-7 on Saturday, April 10. Every batter for Fame Diner scored at least once as they cranked out 12 hits. Urgen Sherpa and Stephen Dierks led the offensive charge.
