OZONE PARK — A College Point man was arrested after he allegedly copied a color photo of his no-good license plate to his car after admitting he could no longer afford registration and insurance on his vehicle, a spokeswoman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Joseph Rosado, 44, of 18-34 125th St. in College Point, was driving his 2001 Ford Crown Victoria at the intersection of 96th Street and Atlantic Avenue in Ozone Park between 11:52 p.m. April 6 and 12:25 a.m. April 7 when he was stopped by an officer because his headlights were not on, according to the criminal complaint.
When the officer approached the car, he saw Rosado did not have a proper registration sticker in the front windshield and noticed Rosado had a color photo copy of a license plate affixed to the Crown Victoria, the complaint said.
Rosado allegedly admitted that he “couldn’t afford the registration and insurance, so before I returned the plates I went to Staples to make a copy of the plate so I could drive home.”
The officer also said Rosado could not produce a valid registration card, according to the complaint.
Rosado was arraigned April 7 before Queens Criminal Court Justice Lenora Gerald on three vehicle traffic law charges and was released on his own recognizance, the DA’s spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman said Rosado is next scheduled to appear in court May 24.
