SOUTH RICHMOND HILL — A Long Island man faces charges that he drove drunk with his two children in the car in South Richmond Hill, causing an accident, a spokeswoman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Anthony Clarke, 47, of 23 Pear St. in Central Islip, L.I., was allegedly found by an officer responding to a car crash to have slurred speech, an odor of alcohol on his breath and being unsteady on his feet exiting the car between 9:45 p.m. and 10:26 p.m. April 6 near Lefferts Boulevard and 111th Avenue in South Richmond Hill, according to the criminal complaint.
Clarke allegedly admitted he was “driving and rear ended the second car,” the complaint said.
The officer said he saw Clarke with his two children — a 10-year-old and an 8-year-old — in his car, the complaint said.
Clarke was taken to the 112th Precinct and refused to take an Intoxilyzer exam, according to the complaint.
He was arraigned April 7 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Joseph Zayas on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and endangering the welfare of a child, the spokeswoman said.
Clarke was released on his own recognizance, the spokeswoman said.
His next court date was scheduled for Wednesday, she said.
