I must respectfully disagree with your editorial “Care for All Children” in the April 8-14 edition of TimesLedger Newspapers.
Whether children or adults, the free treatment of illegal aliens is what has caused hospitals to close — three in Queens and last week another in Manhattan.
While it may not be humane, the fact that those who get services free, which we taxpaying native citizens must pay for, is not right either. For one thing, illegals are just that — here illegally, and they have no right to expect Americans to pay their bills.
To make matters worse, those who are paying are suffering, as their medical care goes into jeopardy because the hospitals are not being reimbursed for treating illegal aliens. They not only take jobs from us, but bankrupt our hospitals.
I would like to see foreign countries footing the bill for Americans within their borders illegally.
While it may sound cruel, the fact remains that no one gets a free ride. And when those who are getting freebies are causing the bill payers to have their vital hospitals closed, it is twice as deplorable.
