Steinway library branch reopens

Local elected officials and community leaders recently helped celebrate the reopening of the Steinway branch of the Queens library after the library received renovations that included a new adult area with new furniture and a new laptop work space.

The renovations totaled $429,000 and the branch now offers a new media area, along with a new user-friendly self-checkout system

Councilmember Peter F. Vallone Jr. joined Queens Library CEO Thomas Galante, Assemblymember Michael Gianaris, Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer and young members of Astoria’s Variety Boys and Girls Club at the celebration.

“Our libraries offer tremendous resources for our community, whether it comes in the form of a librarian’s vast knowledge, using a computer for free or simply having a place to entertain your child with endless possibilities tucked away in the stacks of books,” Vallone said.
