Man gets 15 years to life for stabbing wife: Brown

KEW GARDENS — A Jamaica man was sentenced last Thursday to 15 years to life in prison for killing his wife in their home as their daughter slept in another room, the Queens district attorney said.

Mohammad Solaiman, 51, of Cedarcroft Road, pleaded guilty in March to second-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a weapon for the Dec. 22, 2007, incident.

Solaiman stabbed his wife, Shahida Sultanna, 32, multiple times all over her body between 2 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., according to Queens DA Richard Brown.

“Today’s sentence is a measure of justice for the victim and her family. This horrific murder cut short a young woman’s life too soon and left her little daughter without a mother,” he said in a statement.

Solaiman knocked on neighbors’ doors telling them what happened and the police were called in, the DA said. Investigators found the stabber covered in blood and his 4-year-old daughter by his side, according to Brown.

Sultanna’s body was lying on the bedroom floor and visible by police from the doorway.
