Repairs promised to community

After more than a month, according to one area resident, a defective catch basin at

84th Street and 155th Avenue in Howard Beach will be repaired “in the next few days.”

Ozone Park Civic Association president Howard Kamph called the city’s 3-1-1 on April 21 to report the problem, and a service request was “submitted to the Department of Environmental Protection,” according to the file.

However, as of Tuesday, May 25, Kamph said, “Nothing was touched, except maybe the [orange traffic] cone was put into the hole.”

He noted that the location is in a busy bus stop and near P.S. 232.

“I’m frustrated – this should have been taken care of already,” he told The Courier.

However, DEP spokesperson Mercedes Padilla said a crew checked out and secured the area on Sunday, May 23, and that repairs are scheduled in the next few days.
