Gooooal!
U.S. midfielder Landon Donovan scored a goal in extra time to help the U.S. defeat Algeria 1-0 and send the country into round of 16 of this year’s World Cup.
The impact of Donovan’s goal, which sent the U.S. fans attending the game in South Africa into a frenzy, could be felt thousands of miles away as fans that skipped work or took an extended lunch break went wild in Bayside’s Bourbon Street.
“It was unbelievable, in the 91st minute,” said Francis Pinucchio, who was celebrating with his friends. “We knew it was coming. They robbed us of too many goals. That was amazing.”
