The Courier gets action – again

It was like an early birthday present for Rose Ann Caraccio.

After calling the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for three years about a defective catch basin at 57th Avenue and 79th Street in Middle Village, an article by The Courier helped to get it fixed.

“What a difference,” she said, pointing to the repairs on Sunday, June 27 – her birthday.

Caraccio, who lives next door to the site, said crewmembers came out on Thursday and Friday June 24 and 25.

DEP spokesperson Mercedes Padilla said they did extensive brick work, installed a new, three-piece basin, raised the unit to street grade and filled in black top.

Now that it’s not caving in, both Caraccio and her neighbors are happy with the results.

“Thank you so much for all you’ve done,” she told The Courier.
