Astoria – Councilmember Peter F. Vallone Jr. joined Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, Congressmember Joseph Crowley and Community Board 1 District Manager Lucille Hartman at this year’s senior citizen/special populations swimming program at Astoria Park pool.
Vallone handed out awards and encouraged program participants to continue using city pools to stay fit.
The swimming program, now in its 29th year and organized by the Department of Parks and Recreation, Community Board 1 and Catholic Charities, has been aiding seniors and the disabled since 1981. During the rest of August, it offers water aerobics, water ballet, instructional swimming and other classes to allow participants to take full advantage of the city’s pools.
