Bone marrow drive to save a life

Councilmember Mark Weprin and State Senate candidate Tony Avella have teamed up to organize a bone marrow drive for Glen Oaks resident Philip J. Felice – a retired city bus operator who has been battling lymphoma since 2007. The donor test involves a simple cheek swab which is tested to see if you match not only Felice, but other patients all over the country who are in need of bone marrow transplants.

“The mission is to save lives by recruiting bone marrow donors for patients battling cancer and a simple cheek swab can help to save a life,” said Avella. “Please come out and get swabbed. There is no better way to serve your community than by saving the life of a neighbor.”

The bone marrow drive will take place on Saturday, August 21 at Curves for Women, 259-27 Union Turnpike, in the Glen Oaks Shopping Center from 12:30 – 4:30 p.m.
