Free cancer caregiver support group

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has partnered with New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ)  to start holding a free caregiver support group for those caring for individuals with cancer.

Sessions will be held on the first Wednesday of every month. The first session was held on Wednesday, September 1.

The group is facilitated by Dr. Jill Meyer and registered nurse Maria Thelusma.

A caregiver is someone who provides regular assistance. This could include helping with daily needs, taking the person to doctor’s appointment or assisting them with grocery shopping.

The support group is open to “caregivers of any cancer diagnosis.” The group is “dedicated to addressing the unique needs of those who care for others.”

Meetings will be held in the radiation oncology department of New York Hospital Queens, which is located at 56-45 Main Street in Flushing.

For more information about the caregiver support group or to register, contact Meg Harrison at 212-376-4772 or meg.harrison@lls.org.
