Church celebrates 50 years — Majority Baptist Church was organized in the home of Reverend and Mrs. Walter A. Jones, of Hollis on October 6, 1960. A group of baptized believers in Christ assembled together, sang their first song, "My Hope Is Built," followed by scripture Psalms 40:10, followed by prayer.

After that first meeting it was voted that Reverend Walter A. Jones would be the pastor. His first officers were: Beatrice Brooks the first Church Clerk, Irma Richardson, Church Treasurer, and Emma Cooper, Mother of the Church.

The church was named Majority Baptist Church in recognition of the church in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

After some time, the space located at 115-21 Farmers Boulevard, which housed a bar and grill, became the space for the Majority Baptist Church.

From the humble beginnings, with six women and 13 children Majority has become a shining light of love, compassion, friendship and hope to the surrounding community.

On May 18, 2008, the beloved organizer, pastor, preacher, and teacher, Reverend Dr. Walter A. Jones, Sr., retired and became Emeritus of the Majority Baptist Church. As his last official act, he elevated and appointed the Assistant Pastor, Reverend Darryl Frazier, as Pastor of Majority Baptist Church.

Currently they are planning to celebrate a 50th Jubilee Celebration at The Sand Castle in Franklin Square, LI on Friday, October 22 at 7 p.m.
