It’s looking as if the unlimited 30-day MetroCard is here to stay, but at a higher cost.
Transit officials had discussed putting a cap on unlimited MetroCards, but Metropolitan Transportation Authority chief Jay Walder said otherwise after an MTA Board meeting Wednesday.
“I think New Yorkers said they really like having an uncapped, unlimited monthly pass to go around the city,” Walder said.
Straphangers who attended public hearings early this month were loud in their opposition to putting a limit on MetroCards.
Fares in general are expected to rise in January of 2011, with the 30-day unlimited card rising from $89 to $104.
In any case the MTA Board is meeting on Thursday, Oct. 7, to vote on whether to approve the changes.
