A man was arrested after allegedly hitting a pedestrian in Forest Hills who later died and accused of fleeing the scene, according to the NYPD.
Avraham Mullokandov, 17, of 61-35 98th St., was headed south on 108th Street at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday when he allegedly struck a man with his 2010 Nissan Rogue as the man was crossing the intersection at 63rd Road and 108th Street, police said.
The victim, Dominick Winnick, 31, died Tuesday morning from injuries sustained during the accident, according to New York Hospital Queens spokeswoman Cynthia Bacon. Mullokandov is charged with vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an accident and a license restriction violation, police said.
Following the death of Winnick, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown had not upgraded the charges as of press time Tuesday evening.
Mullokandov was arraigned Monday and released Tuesday on $50,000 bail, according to the DA.
Winnick was walking with a friend, Maciej Zabierek, 30, to get pizza when Winnick was struck, according to the New York Post.
Mullokandov allegedly fled, but later returned to the scene and was arrested, police said.
After Winnick was hit by the first car, he was struck by a 1998 Nissan Maxima, whose driver did remain at the scene.
“I put my hand on his chest. I was telling him not to give up,” Zabierek told the Post.
Emergency responders took the victim to NYHQ, where he was listed in critical condition upon arrival.
“Doctors say it’s no good. Maybe he has a few days, then he’ll die,” Winnick’s sobbing mother, Alina, told the Post.
Mullokandov was due to appear in court again Jan. 13.
