Man killed after allegedly threatening police

A 21-year-old man was killed by police after he allegedly confronted police while armed with a knife.
The incident happened on Wednesday, December 22 inside of 64-49 Shaler Avenue in Glendale, after the latest altercation between Zach Bingert and his mother.
She called 9-1-1 after he allegedly threatened her at knifepoint. When officers arrived, they ordered Bingert to drop his weapon, but he reportedly lunged at them. Three officers fired, though it is unknown how many rounds, and Bingert was killed. He reportedly had two other knives.
EMS responded to the scene and pronounced Bingert dead. The officers were taken to Jamaica Hospital for trauma and minor injuries.
