Mustangs gallop to championship over Dolphins

As time ran out in the fourth quarter, the Beach Channel Dolphins were on the wrong side of a 23-20 score. The Dolphins were defeated at the hands of the Harry S. Truman Mustangs in the Bowl Division Championship game on Sunday, November 28.
The Mustangs got on the board first behind senior running back Isayah Muller, who ran 80 yards for the score, his first of two on the day. Muller was the offensive star for the Mustangs. In addition to the two touchdowns Muller ran for 295 yards, leading his team to a championship.
“Muller is a good running back; he is everything that everybody says,” said Dolphins’ head coach Victor Nazario Jr. “There were no surprises in this game. It was about stopping [Muller]. He had a hell of a football game.”
Quarterback Pat Burrello led the Dolphins offense going 9-for-20 through the air for 120 yards and two touchdowns, both caught by wide receiver Henry Adegunie. One of Adeguine’s touchdowns came in the second quarter, giving Beach Chanel a 14-7 lead, the last lead the Dolphins would hold in the game.
“Our passing kept us in the game,” said Nazario, adding that it was the running game that got them to the championship. “[Running back Diequan Underwood] is a big reason why we were here and he did not let us down today.”
Underwood rushed for 54 yards on 18 carries.
The fighting spirit was evident in the Dolphins; with under four minutes left in the game and the Dolphins down 23-14, Burrello marched his team up the field and capped off the drive with a 19 yard touchdown, making the score 23-20. It was that never quit attitude that made Nazario proud of his team.
“As far as my guys, if they would have put their heads down and quit on me and not have given me 100 percent for four quarters then I would be upset,” said Nazario. “But I can’t say that. I am proud of these guys. I feel for the seniors, I feel for my team, obviously we want to be walking off the field as champions, but hats off to Truman on a great season on their part and a hell of a football game.”
The Dolphins went 9-1 in the regular season, earning the top spot in the Bowl Division. Burrello threw for 1155 yards and 12 touchdowns and Underwood rushed for 671 yards and eight touchdowns to lead the Dolphins potent offense in 2010. With 20 out of 33 players returning, Beach Channel has a good shot of going far next season as well.
