News briefs from around the borough:

A 66-year-old woman was killed in an apartment fire in Flushing on Dec. 9.
Flames broke out just before 2:30 am on the fifth floor of a six-story apartment building on 150th street.

As first reported in the New York Post, the man who shot cab driver Trevor Bell has been identified as Shawn Peace and is allegedly part of an armed robbery crew that has struck at least 16 times in Queens.

The House passes the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act. For more information on this legislation,
which allows minors who have lived in the United States for at least five consecutive years before their 16th birthday a chance for permanent residency, click here

According to Chung-Wha Hong, executive director of the New York Immigration Coalition,
only five New York representatives, Arcuri (D-24), Higgins (D-27), King (R-3), Lee (R-26), and Owens (D-23), voted the measure down.
