FRESH MEADOWS — A 30-year-old Flushing man, Roberto Soto, has been arrested and charged for battering another car with his black Mercedes-Benz Feb. 10 while driving without a license and then fleeing the scene, according to the Queens District Attorney.
At around 10:50 a.m. to 10:55 a.m., the driver of another car was traveling from Utopia Parkway in Fresh Meadows to the on-ramp for the Long Island Expressway when a black Mercedes-Benz, allegedly driven by Soto, hit his car, the criminal complaint said. When the victim tried to pull over to the side of the road, the Mercedes-Benz allegedly began to tailgate him and then hit the rear of his car, the complaint said.
Once again the victim, who was driving in the right lane, tried to pull over, but the Mercedes-Benz, which was going 60 to 70 miles per hour, pulled into the middle lane and hit the left side, the complaint said.
When the victim tried to exit the expressway at Francis Lewis Boulevard, the Mercedes-Benz drove over the curb to follow him, the complaint said. The victim stopped at a red light at Francis Lewis Boulevard and Horace Harding Expressway, at which time Soto allegedly got out and attacked the vehicle’s side and windshield with his fists and feet, the complaint said. The victim attempted to call 911, at which point Soto allegedly ran away, the complaint said.
The victim saw the Benz’s license plate number, which Soto admitted to owning, the complaint said. He also allegedly admitted he got into an altercation with the victim and ran away because he did not have a license, the complaint said.
Soto was charged with driving without a license, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and leaving the scene of an accident, the complaint said.
