A Brooklyn sex offender was arrested and arraigned last week for allegedly stabbing and killing a 40-year-old Laurelton man on the evening of Feb. 4, the Kings County district attorney’s office said.
Errol Irving, 60, who allegedly committed the killing at his residence on East 51st Street between Avenues K and L in Brooklyn, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon, a spokesman for the DA said.
The city Department of Corrections’ web site said he was arrested Feb. 6 and has been held at the Otis Bantum Correctional Center, at 16-06 Hazen St. in East Elmhurst, without bail. His next court date is May 10.
The police said they found the victim, Shayne Sinclair, who lived on 230th Place near South Conduit Avenue, stabbed inside the house after receiving a 911 call around 8:32 p.m. He was driven to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, the police said.
The DA had few details on the particulars of the case.
The New York Post reported Irving and Sinclair, who was the caretaker at Irving’s residence, had been arguing when Irving allegedly stabbed the Queens man. After being injured, Sinclair tumbled down the stairs while Irving ran from the scene, the Post reported.
Irving was convicted in 1987 of sexually abusing a then-11-year-old female relative of his, records from New York State Criminal Justice Services said. He was charged with sexual abuse and two counts of sodomy and was released after about 20 years in state prison in 2007, the records show.
