The first female vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro passed away this weekend at the age of 75.
Ferraro began her political career in Queens when she ran for Congress in 1978 winning the seat. Prior to her victory she served as a prosecutor in the Queens district attorney’s office.
In July 1984, Democratic presidential candidate Walter Mondale named Ferraro his running mate making her the first female to hold that distinction.
Born in 1935 in Newburgh, New York, Ferraro attended Marymount Academy and Marymount Manhattan College. She later attended the Fordham University School of Law.
Ferraro passed away on March, 26 following a battle with multiple myeloma.
