Mary DeMarco

Mary DeMarco passed away on Monday, February 21 at the age of 98.

DeMarco is survived by her three daughters, eight grandchildren and thirteen grandchildren.

DeMarco, born on New Year’s Day in 1913, grew up in Astoria attending Long Island City High School.

She was married to Ralph DeMarco on November 22, 1931. They shared a close and loving relationship until his death in March 1977.

Mary spent her early married life as a homemaker raising her children in Astoria, where she spent her whole life. She supported her husband Ralph’s love for politics and helped him start the Taminent Regular Democratic Club. She was an active and honorary member until her passing.

After the passing of her husband, DeMarco went to work as a temporary clerk at the Board of Elections, under the guidance of her loving friend Gloria D’Amico. She would not take a permanent position, as she had to have her summers free to spend at the family’s summer house in Sound Beach dubbed the “DeMarco Villa.”

After retiring at 80, DeMarco spent her time surrounded by family and enjoying the occasional game of cards.

Mary DeMarco will always be remembered as the matriarch of the family she loved.
